As we brace ourselves for another winter, we dropped by the Breakfast Television Calgary studio to talk to Tara Sloane about some cozy essentials designed to keep our little ones safe and warm in extreme conditions.
Our shopping experience offers a huge variety of products for babies & kids from Canada's largest stores, smallest boutiques, and everything in between. Scroll through this photo gallery to view some of the cozy stuff we featured on the show, or click here for a complete list of BT features from Babies R Us, Sears, Gingerbread Monkeys, Well.ca, SoftMoc, Sublime Baby, Baby Parka, and others.

Dressing your little one correctly is key to staving off the effects of cold weather. Creating a base with a warm “onesie” or knit separates and adding more layers as needed is effective for maintaining body heat outdoors, and easy enough to peel off and regulate body temperature indoors.

The majority of body heat escapes via the head so a warm hat is a must. Mittens and booties can be hard to keep on busy hands and feet but toggles or elastic around the wrists and ankles will ensure fingers and toes are kept cozy!

Bunting- or snuggle bags fit over strollers and car seats to create a warm fleece or down cocoon for your little one. Baby boutiques like Gingerbread Monkeys, will stock unique designs like this contemporary puffer jacket version from 7 A.M., while major retailers offer a variety of familiar brands like Jolly Jumper.

Some strollers may have a built-in weather cover, which will zip on and off to protect your baby from the elements, but if yours doesn't have one, you can just as easily get a stand-alone model that easily fits over the stroller, and discretely packs away when you are done with it.

Stonz baby accessories are made in Canada and specifically designed to tackle our winters. Booties and gloves are water resistant and fleece lined, and feature 2 sets of toggles at ankle and calf, or wrist and elbow respectively, for a customized, snug fit!

This unique product line includes a cover for babies being transported in a carrier. Well thought out features include a built-in foot bag for added warmth, a 2-way hood for carrying baby on your back or front, and reflective tape.

Now deemed a potential choking or suffocation hazard, parents have moved away from blankets and throws in the crib, to sleeping bags which fit the baby like a bag with shoulder straps. A great alternative is a fleece sleeper - be sure to check out the festive selection at Sears.
Winter health starts with great nutrition. This handy, pre-portioned cube tray allows you to prepare and freeze nutritious pureed meals while fruit and vegetables are in season. It will save you money, time, and keep your baby pumped full of valuable vitamins and minerals!

A humidifier helps keep nasal passages and chests clear during the cold and flu season. A nasal aspirator, Vicks rub, and homeopathic relief for colds are a few drugstore remedies the experts at Well.ca recommend you have on hand to help fight common winter illnesses.
