Find a new use for your microwave in Canada this winter

Posted by Miriam Lamey on December 15, 2009 in Home & Garden

Many Canadian college students know that the humble microwave is an appliance essential to daily life. You can warm up tea, cook dinner - anything from macaroni and cheese to reheating that scary pizza slice - and even whip up some popcorn for an impromptu movie night.

However, the faithful microwave is about to take on a whole new role for culinarily-challenged college students and their ageing parents. So scrub off that turntable and eliminate any residual cheese, for the microwave can now also be used to warm slippers.

It might sound faintly ridiculous, but the National Post recently reported that slippers designed for microwave-warming might just be a great, innovative present this holiday season.

According to the news provider, the design team and real-life couple Allan and Patricia Kotack went on the CBC show Dragon's Den and the microwavable slippers called Cosy Soles were the product for which they hoped to procure funding.

The slippers have built-in heating packs that warm up in the microwave and were designed to help ease symptoms of Patricia's neuromuscular disorder that left her feet cold and painful.

The new Cosy Soles mean that some Canadians may expect warm feet and a clean microwave this holiday season. ADNFCR-2437-ID-19514607-ADNFCR
