The Quick and Dirty: About Shoptoit.ca

In 2004, Shop To It was created after identifying a large market of under-served Canadian shoppers. The goal was to meet the needs of these consumers by providing a unique, Canadian online shopping experience. Before shoptoit.ca existed, Canadians had only two online shopping options: either search for products on traditional search engines like Google, or use U.S. shopping search engines, whose listing merchants may not be able to guarantee shipment to Canada. Buying from the U.S. could also result in expensive freight charges, currency conversions, and cross-border taxes for Canadian consumers.

Shoptoit.ca is Canada’s largest and only bilingual shopping search network, with more than 600 retailers and over 7,000,000 listed products. Retailers like Indigo, Home Depot and Sears have found huge success in using the shoptoit.ca search engine to reach the Canadian market. Consumers also greatly benefitted from our shopping comparisons, buying guides, gift ideas, and great deals. All participating retailers ship to Canada with an overwhelming 98% that actually ship their products from within Canada. This eliminates duty, and extra cross-border shipping costs.

The Brains Behind The Operation

Shoptoit.ca was created by Calgary-based entrepreneurs and business veterans: Clark Johannson, Scott Sanderson, and Brendan Duddridge. The company was launched under their existing software development and e-Commerce business, Clickspace Interactive Inc. Clickspace has successfully incubated two other software organizations (Repeat Seat and StrataHealth Solutions), and developed a leading Internet marketing and e-commerce software (DriveIt Online Marketing Software).

The Nitty Gritty: How It Works

hoptoit.ca is as easy to use as a regular search engine - just type what you are looking for into the search bar, or click on a category or sub-category to begin your search. Whereas search results from engines like Google or Yahoo return a list of websites, which may or may not be Canadian or shopping specific, shoptoit.ca returns a list of relevant products available to Canadians. This service allows you to research and compare your options in one central place and equips you with all your purchasing information.

Shoptoit.ca boasts a comprehensive set of tools to help shoppers find exactly what they are looking for:

  • Feature Filter – allows the shopper to narrow a product search by the criteria most important to their purchasing decision. For example, in digital cameras, you could filter your search by by “mega pixels” and “price” amongst a list of other attributes.
  • Comparison Clipboard – enables side-by-side comparison of multiple products.
  • Sort by – arranges results based on criteria like closest retail store, best deals, or most popular items.
